Our CMO, Ignacio Gonzalez, was at the Erasmus Hospital (Brussels) to present our technology, the Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI).
During his presentation, he used a publication by Upton HD et al: “Intraoperative “Analgesia Nociception Index”-Guided Fentanyl Administration During Sevoflurane Anesthesia in Lumbar Discectomy and Laminectomy: A Randomized Clinical Trial.” which was published in July 2017, in Anesthesia and Analgesia.

The different results, as explained by Upton et al., show how the ANI was able to detect the noxious stimulus, which then allowed for treatment and avoidance of neuro modulation (inflammation), compared to the group guided only by standard practices.

Thus, a better maintained analgesia during surgery would reduce inflammatory reaction and its side effects.

As a consequence:
Upton et al. show the positive outcomes of using the ANI to guide remifentanil and fentanyl administration during GA.

Compared to the control group, patients in the ANI group additionally had :
– 64% lower recovery room total fentanyl administration.
– 82% lower nausea scores.
– A reduced incidence of shivering (ANI 4%, control 27%).
